Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

One day, while I was watching my mother clean the house, I noticed her putting some items that were no longer of use into a box marked ‘store’. I was curious to know what she did with these items and why she didn’t throw them away.

So, I asked my mother about it, and she explained that she gave these items for recycling. This got me even more curious, and I asked her why she recycled these items instead of just throwing them away.

To answer my question, my mother asked me to get my Musky Kit and the Recycle Mat. I was thrilled as I quickly ran to my room to retrieve my kit. Once I got back, my mother explained to me the importance of recycling and how it helps to protect the environment.

She told me that instead of just throwing away things that we don’t need anymore, we can recycle them and give them a new life. This helps to reduce waste, conserve resources, and protect our planet.

Using Musky and the Recycle Mat, my mother taught me about the different materials that can be recycled, such as paper, plastic, glass, and metal. She showed me how to sort the items according to their material type and place them in separate bins for recycling.

I was amazed to learn that by recycling, we could not only help protect the environment but also save energy and reduce pollution. I felt proud to be part of such an important mission. Thanks to my Musky Kit and my mother’s guidance, I learned about the importance of recycling and how it can help us all make a positive impact on the world.

Teachers Note

Reduce, reuse, and recycle are three essential concepts that kids should learn to protect the environment.
Reduce: Encourage children to reduce waste by using fewer resources, such as water and energy, and minimizing the use of disposable products.
Reuse: Teach children to resume items rather than throwing them away. For e.g., teach them to reuse containers, bags etc. show them how to turn old items into new, like pencil holder from can, or bird feeder from carton.
Recycle: Teach children what materials can be recycled and how to properly dispose of them. Show them how to sort materials into separate bins

The Recycle mat is a great teaching tool for teachers and parents alike. Teachers can engage kids in meaningful action and make them learn about recycling in a way that the message sticks back and they don’t forget what they learnt. You can encourage students not to buy pre-packaged items and reuse things that can be easily used again and again.
