The field of electronics revolves around current, voltage, and resistance. The electric circuit is formed when the conductive path is created and the electric charge movies continuously. This continuous movement of electric charge through the conductors of a circuit is known as current or flow. The SI unit of current is Ampere and is denoted by ‘A’. The current is measured by Ammeter and always flows from negative to positive.
What is Current?
Depending upon the flow of the current, it can be categorized into two types i.e. Direct Current (DC) and Alternating Current (AC). While the DC current flows in the same direction, the AC current flows alternately. The current obtained from the battery is called DC current, and the current n our home is called AC current. Current is measured in amps, symbolized by “I”.
What is Voltage?
Electric Potential or Voltage is the force that motivates the charge carriers to flow a. In simpler words, voltage is the force that drives the electrons in an electrical circuit to go in one direction and not haphazardly. Voltage is measured in volts, symbolized by the letters “E” or “V”.
Without voltage, electrons would be flowing randomly and useless to the circuit. Voltage is measured in parallel with the load. It flows from higher potential to lower potential. It is measured with Voltmeter.
What is Resistance?
Resistance is the opposition to the flow of electrons (current). It is denoted by Greek letter ‘Ω’ omega. Resistance increases with the increase in temperature. The amount of current in a circuit depends on the amount of voltage and the amount of resistance in the circuit to oppose current flow. Resistance is measured in ohms and symbolized by “R”.
Standard Units of Measurement for Electrical Current, Voltage, And Resistance
Ohm’s Law Equation
E = I x R
Or
Where voltage (E) is equal to current (I) multiplied by resistance (R). Using this equation, we can calculate I and R too.
