Emotion Management Mat
Manage Your Emotions!
One day, I came back home from school feeling extremely ecstatic about something. My parents could sense that I had something exciting to share with them and eagerly asked me about it. I gleefully revealed that our school was taking us on a trip to the zoo, and our class teacher had sent a note about it in our diaries. My parents looked over the note and gave me their approval to attend the trip. I was overjoyed and thrilled beyond words.
Suddenly, my mother asked me how I felt at that moment. Without any hesitation, I exclaimed, “Mumma, I feel ‘happy’ and ‘excited’!” She then questioned if I understood the meaning of those emotions, and I replied confidently that they were emotions. My mother elaborated further, saying that there were many other emotions such as worry, sadness, anger, confidence, and many more.
Feeling curious, I suggested that we play with Musky and learn about emotions. My parents were happy to oblige, and we all gathered around the emotion management mat. With my parents’ guidance, I instructed Musky to move from one block to another while learning about different emotions and ways to manage them. It was a fun and educational experience that taught me valuable life skills.
